Graded Readers & nihongo Tagengo Tadoku (日本語多言語多読)
Graded readers are books that are written specifically for second language learners and are designated a level (0 to 4) depending on their difficulty. Many of the books have Japanese folktales, biographies, etc. with simplified Japanese. Most are very short, so it is easy to read them within a few hours or days, depending on the book. Therefore, they can be very helpful to people who are just starting out with extensive reading. Compared with English, the number of graded readers in Japanese are very small in number (about 170) and only one company produces them:
Nihongo Tagengo Tadoku (previously known as Nihongo Tadoku Kenkyukai) is a nonprofit organization in Japan that is dedicated to developing Japanese graded readers and promoting extensive reading. The site is mainly in Japanese, but they publish their own graded readers (above) and make suggestions for other books to use for extensive reading.

They also have a list of reading material appropriate for extensive reading outside of graded readers. (日本語多読に適した市販本や参考図書)It's divided by level, but unfortunately, the list is limited.
