As our last meeting before a two week break (Aurora is off to the mainland), we went to I love yogurt to cool down from the summer heat. The yogurt was delicious and it was a great way to relax! We also played "salad bowl" with English and Japanese Onomatopoeia. Everyone wrote down 5 onomatopoeia in English or Japanese on separate sheets of small paper, folded it up, and put it in a yogurt cup. Then we had Americans and Japanese people pair up in teams. During one turn, a team would randomly take one piece of paper from the cup, open it, and try to get the rest of the group to guess what the onomatopoeia word was. Americans used Japanese and Japanese members used English to explain it. Once it was guessed correctly, they could pick another sheet of paper and do the same thing until 2 minutes was up. The aim was to collect as many sheets of paper as possible (of course while learning some new words!). I think we all learned some interesting onomatopoeia and even tried re-enacting some of them for the camera. See the pictures gallery for more! The password is still "skydiving."
Saturday seven of the club members + one friend got together to go skydiving. It was incredibly scary, but ことばがでないぐらいうつくしい. Please take a look at the pictures posted in the gallery (password protected). Absolutely loved it and hope to get more members to come to our next event:)
Thursday we had a large number of people at the meeting (about 9) and played a bilingual game of "Never have I ever" in both English and Japanese (of course, all appropriate questions). It was quite interesting and a great way to learn about each other. This was our last trip before our skydiving outing on Saturday.
Had a wonderful meeting yesterday! Some newer faces and many old. We spent some time summarizing books for each other in Japanese, then broke into casual conversation. It was quite fun! The idea of going on a group trip or outing was made: going surfing, diving, or sky diving perhaps? It seems like sky diving is the most popular choice as of now . . . once we decide I'll send out the details. Next meeting: Thursday at Aurora's house 1pm Yesterday 6 of us ate lunch together at Shirokiya before heading to Book-off. We were all able to find some interesting, inexpensive books! Noel found "ダーリンの頭ん中” and Erin found a lot of manga. Although it took some time to find where the best books were, we all left with exciting new books to read:) On Sunday's meeting, we played an item taboo game and talked to each other about books we were reading. Erin introduced a group of female manga writers named "CLAMP." Apparently they are very famous and have written manga such as Clover, Gate 7, and Drug and Drop. They have received many awards for their works and you can read more about them here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clamp_%28manga_artists%29#Works (Thanks Erin for providing the link) Yuki also noted that the "ジャンプ" magazine is a very good place to read popular manga that most young Japanese people are interested in, like One Piece, Naruto, etc. These magazines are sold at a very inexpensive price at Book-off, so let's check them out! Next Meeting: Sunday at 1pm Meet outside of Shirokiya, across from the Macy's entrance. We'll have lunch together inside Shirokiya and then take a look at Book-off together. This is your chance to use the book-off points you've collected so far:) |
